Trio Obscura present a dynamic and colourful, virtuosic, evocative and thought-provoking programme. Composers August Klughardt and Charles Martin Loeffler draw on the romantic and impressionist sound worlds from which they emerged, while Alyssa Morris (a rising star on the US music scene) tackles some of life’s Big Questions in a powerful, whimsical, profound and goofy masterpiece. NZ composer Janet Jennings has provided a brand-new work for the group.
The trio comprises Bede Hanley – oboe; Robert Ashworth – viola; and Sarah Watkins – piano. Bede and Robert are principals with the Auckland Philharmonia and Sarah Watkins is well-known to Sunday concert audiences as an innovative collaborative pianist. Sarah has most recently performed for Sunday Concerts as part of the Levansa Trio in 2025.
