Behn Quartet (string quartet)

Behn Quartet (string quartet)

The Behn Quartet comprises Kate Oswin (violin), Alicia Berendse (violin), Lydia Abell (viola) and Ghislaine McMullin (cello). Kate, who is from Christchurch, leads. They take their name from Aphra Behn, the seventeenth century playwright and poet, philanthropist of the arts, feminist, spy and political activist.

These fresh, fierce women from NZ, England, the Netherlands and Wales have been earning rave reviews since they joined forces only two years ago. The Quartet holds a fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music where they were awarded the Amadeus Prize 2016. In 2017, they won First Prize at the Orlando International Chamber Music Competition. Recent engagements include the Netherlands, Halesworth Arts Festival, Swaledale Festival, and a season opener for the Aylesbury Lunchtime Recital.
